AIDS project in Dese, Ethiopia *

By buying Paddington's upcoming CD,"Blessed & Brokenhearted", you give money to orphaned children suffering from AIDS. The money is used for i.a. accomodation and medicine.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM) is an official mission organisation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. Its headquarters are in Helsinki, Finland. FELM has 240 missionaries working in over twenty countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. The main emphasis of its work is both proclamation of the Gospel and Christian service.
The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus is one of the fastest growing churches in the world. During the last four decades its membership has grown from 20 000 to almost four million. FELM has collaborated with the Mekane Yesus Church for 35 years.
The aim of this development project is to help AIDS orphans. If the orphan has lost both parents the project arranges for the child to live with its sisters or brothers, relatives or neighbours. The families receive an allowance of 15 euros a month for food, health service and education for the child. Volunteer workers regularly visit the child and its family.

An estimated 2500 orphans live in Dese, which has a population of 170 000 people. Kombolcha, with a population of 57 000 people and Woldia with a population of 40 000 people have about 600 orphans each.

175 children from Dese, Kombolcha and Woldia are at the moment included in the project. Local authorities choose the children that receive help. The children are 4-18 years old and they are all attending school.
